Bangers & Cash – “The cars bring people together.”
The picturesque Yorkshire village of Thornton Le Dale is home to a unique family business…for three generations, the Mathewsons have been turning old bangers into cash. Bangers and Cash takes viewers into their world – one of passion for classic cars, nostalgia for the open roads of the past and enthusiasm for satisfying the often eccentric tastes of their customers.
The series is based around their vintage 1930s garage on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.
Its cast are the Mathewson family themselves: dad Derek, auctioneer respected expert and master of witty one-liners and his sons Paul and Dave. Completing the team are Derek’s grandson –12-year-old Charlie. All of them are kept in line by no-nonsense office manager Sarah Crabtree. A family team who know how to have high-octane fun whilst trying to turn a profit, travelling the backlanes of Britain in their pick-up truck.
Every episode takes us on a ride back in time, as they search for forgotten motors in barns, henhouses and lockups.
Each episode’s oily voyage of discovery builds up to auction day, as 300 people jostle for position in Thornton le Dale’s packed Village Hall. We’re on the podium as Derek hammers down hundreds of cars. This is accessible history with a Yorkshire accent…
