Air TV has landed its first commission for Channel 5 with a new five-part, 60’ series exploring Cumbria’s world-renowned national park and coastline.
Cumbria: The Lakes and the Coast (w/t) – is now in production and is due to be transmitted on Channel 5 in 2024. It’s the first full series commission with Channel 5 for the Yorkshire-based indie whose other productions include long-running classic car auction series Bangers & Cash (UKTV), emergency medical show Helicopter ER (Warner Bros. Discovery) and aviation restoration show Warplane Workshop (More4).
The new series commission from Channel 5 follows the success of recent similar Channel 5 titles Jersey & Guernsey, Isle of Wight: Jewel of the South and Norfolk & Suffolk: Country and Coast.
Air’s new Cumbria series will be series produced by Hayley Nelson and exec produced by Morland Sanders and Ian Cundall. The Commissioning Editor for Channel 5 / Paramount+ is Federico Ruiz.
The five episodes will celebrate England’s most dramatic national park, whilst also exploring lesser-known spots on the Cumbrian coast.
Air TV Executive Producer Morland Sanders says “This is an area that is home to England’s tallest mountains and deepest lakes, and we are really excited to be able to bring the beauty of this amazing county to Channel 5’s viewers. Our team knows this part of the world really well, so it’s great to be able to use that local knowledge and passion for the area as we make the series.”
Federico Ruiz, VP, Commissioning Editor Channel 5 and Paramount + says “Channel 5’s celebration of the rich beauty and cultural heritage found on our very shores continues. After watching this, you’ll be sacking off your trip to the Costa Blanca and taking the kids to Cumbria instead.”
The series is due to be shown in the UK in 2024 and is being distributed internationally by DCD Rights.
