Kirsten O’Brien is taking a 15-mile walk along the more surprising part of the River Tees in Air TV’s latest programme for BBC One. While exploring the history of Upper Teesdale, Kirsten will meet some of the extraordinary people who call the banks of this river home and will take an icy wild swim in its white waters.
Kirsten begins her trek at South Gare near Redcar – a childhood playground for Kirsten and her brother – and then takes in High Force, Middleton in Teesdale and ancient Egglestone Abbey. Along the way she samples the local cheese, learns about the dale’s wildlife and meets an artist who specialises in canine portraits.
This is a charming film with a dynamic local presenter. This episode for BBC North East and Cumbria is one of the eleven River Walks programmes being transmitted across England on BBC One at 7.30pm on Monday 10th December.
